BERMUDA COTTAGE
STERLING SILVER BERMUDA ICONS
The Bermuda cottage exemplifies beauty and function, creating some of the world´s most unique architectural elements using local materials such as limestone and Bermuda Cedarwood.
The most unique feature is the white-washed roof that is essential for collecting and purifying water. The roofs are made of stone slates coated with plaster and then washed with lime. Rainwater collects in gutters at the bottom of the roof and drains down to a tank so that all homes are self-sufficient in terms of their water supply. This system has been used for close to 400 years with minimal changes and improvements. Other traditional features include the louvered shutters, welcoming arm stairway on the entrance, a substantial fireplace and chimney atop a gabled roof and more recently eyebrows over the windows.
