These coins are Greek silver Drachms minted during the reign of Alexander the Great (336-323 B.C.). King of the Macedonians and one of the greatest generals in history, Alexander the Great conquered the Persian Empire which stretched from the Mediterranean Sea to India, extending Grecian influence and making possible the rick culture of the Hellenistic Age.

 

 

Description

Alexander the Great, King of the Macedonians, was one of the greatest generals in history conquering much of the Persian Empire which stretched from the Mediterranean Sea to India and formed much of which was considered the civilized world. Alexander’s conquests furthered the spread of Greek ideas and customs, making possible the rich culture of the Hellenistic Age.

The obverse of both coins show the head of Herakles wearing a lion-skin and the reverse of the coins depict Zeus enthroned holding an eagle and sceptre.
