SEAHORSE
STERLING SILVER BERMUDA ICONS
Living amid seagrass beds throughout the Gulf of Mexico, Bermuda and the Bahamas, dwarf seahorses face plenty of challenges in addition to their size. The dwarf seahorse is so adept at camouflaging itself that many divers are able to distinguish them only after spotting their tiny eyes. Their short time on Earth is one reason dwarfs are currently classified as vulnerable, which means they face a high risk of extinction in the wild. The biggest problem, however, isn’t their life span or natural predators; it’s the huge numbers taken from the sea by people for medicinal uses, as pets, or as souvenirs.
