Description
The ram was a symbol of energy, power, strong will, and virility and was a sacred creature in many ancient civilizations. In Greek mythology, Zeus and Hermes were closely linked to the ram; for the Egyptians, it was associated with the zoomorphic sun god Amun-Ra; and rams pulled the chariot of the Scandinavian god Thor. Alexander the Great was often depicted on coinage with ram’s horns, following his identification with Amun-Ra, who was conceived with a ram’s head.
